About the Department

In 1997, it started Hons. course in Zoology and achieved the distinction of becoming the first Post-Graduate department of the college in 2009. The vibrant department is now running UG (Hons. and General) and PG courses in Zoology with faculty strength of eight and four non-teaching staff. The department, with the active involvement of teachers, non-teaching staff, research scholars, students and even guardians, now gracefully combines wisdom with vigour, planning with execution and knowledge with action.

Message of the H. O. D.

Amit Chattopadhyay

Department of Zoology, Serampore College is an exemplary combination of a well nurtured legacy and future prospects. Being the first department of the college to introduce PG course, we always have the added responsibility of taking the departmental aura to the next level. In addition to the regular teaching-learning process, the teaching faculty of the department is presently also engaged in quality research amidst various constrains. We also try our best to extend our academic activities beyond the classroom in the form of conducting field workshops, participating in National seminars and symposia and providing the crucial exposure to students in outside well equipped laboratories of premiere research institutes. The support and encouragement of the ever enthusiastic non teaching staff has also been instrumental in weaving the fabric of success in this department. In this sacred shrine of learning, we firmly believe that every student here starts feeling a positive vibe about life as a whole once they become a part of the department.
