About the Department
The department of Zoology in Serampore College started its sojourn as part of the department of Biology in 1955 and appeared in its present form in 1963. In 1997, it started Hons. course in Zoology and achieved the distinction of becoming the first Post-Graduate department of the college in 2009. The vibrant department is now running UG (Hons. and General) and PG courses in Zoology with faculty strength of seven along with one Graduate Laboratory Instructor and four non-teaching staff. This department, with the active involvement of teachers, non-teaching staff, students and even guardians, now gracefully combines wisdom with vigour, planning with execution and knowledge with action.

Message of the H. O. D.
The Department of Zoology, Serampore College is a combination of a well nurtured legacy and a lot of future prospects. Being the first department of the college to introduce PG courses, we have the added responsibility of taking the departmental orientation to a higher magnitude. The teaching faculties of the departments are conducting high quality modern research amidst different constrains and with the enthusiastic help of the non teaching staffs, the department has promised to flourish further in near future. I would hope every prospective student will fill a positive vibe about life as a whole once they become a part of the department.

Seminar Library
The department has separate under-graduate and post-graduate seminar libraries with lending and reading facilities for teachers and students alike. Dr. Chiranjeeb Dey is in the charge of these two libraries with Mr. Anit Kumar Chakraborty and Mr. Amit Chattopadhyay assisting him in the UG and PG section respectively. The libraries are constantly being enriched with necessary reading materials.

Alumni
The department prides in having its alumnus Mr. Amit Chattopadhyay as one of the teaching members here. The department has organized its first departmental re-union in March, 2010 and the process of forming an Alumni Association in the department has started. All our alumni are cordially and strongly encouraged to contact the department regarding any query in this matter.
