The Department of Political Science, which has previously taken initiatives at organising state level and UGC sponsored seminars organised an International Seminar on 25th August 2010 in the CLRC Hall of the college. The theme of the seminar was “Democracy and the Global Order: Western and Non-Western Perspectives”. The speakers were Prof. James Mayall and Prof. Aswini Ray and Prof. Apurba Mukhopadhyay was in the chair. Prof. Mayall is currently Emeritus Professor of International Relations at the Cambridge University and the London School of Economics and Political Science, Fellow of Sidney Sussex College and Cambridge and the British Academy. He is also presently the Academic Advisor to the Royal College of Defence Studies in London. Prof. Ray is a Former Professor of International Relations and Comparative Politics at CPS, JNU. He currently holds visiting teaching and research assignments at Universities of Sorbonne, Mexico, Southampton, Uppsala, Tokyo and Moscow and is also attached to the London School of Economics and Political Science. Prof Ray was also a teacher in the college from 1960 to 1963 and it was from here that he began his long and successful academic career. Prof. Apurba Mukhopadhyay is currently Professor of Political Science and Political Studies at the Netaji Institute for Asian Studies, Kolkata and was previously professor at the University of Burdwan.

The Head of the Department, Ms. Pallavi Sen Gupta gave the welcome address, the Principal introduced the speakers and the chairperson and Ms. Patrali Sinha of the Department of Political Science concluded the proceedings by a formal vote of thanks. The seminar, which was attended by students, ex students now engaged in academic programmes, teachers of different departments of the college as well as from other institution witnessed a lively interaction during the Question Hour session followed by serving of refreshments on the terrace of the CLRC Hall.
