Course Structure

The ASC Department of Serampore College offers the following Courses ...

  1. B.A. (General & Hons.)
  2. B.Sc. (General & Hons.)
  3. B.Com. (General & Hons.)
  4. Major Course in Communicative English

Rules and Regulations for selection of subjects offered in the B.A., B.Sc. and B.Com Courses.

  1. Compulsory Languages for all the Degree Course Students (for Part-I Examination)
    English and Bengali / Alternative English (only students who did not have Bengali in H.S. or equivalent course are entitled to take Alt. English).
  2. Elective subjects for B.A. (General Course)
    Bengali, English, Sanskrit or Sociology, History or Mathematics, Philosophy, Political Science, Education and Economics Each student has to take three elective subjects.
  3. Elective subjects for B.A. [Major Course in Communicative English]
    Apart from Comm. English, the students in this course have to take two elective subjects from 4 (ii) (See Rules for Admission provided with the Application Form).
  4. Elective Subjects are offered in the following combinations for B.Sc. (General Course) Students

    (a) Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics
    (b) Botany, Zoology and Physiology
    (c) Economics, Mathematics and Political Science
    (d) Economics, Mathematics and Philosophy
    (e) Economics, Mathematics and English
    (f) Physics, Mathematics, Statistics
    (g) Economics, Mathematics, Statistics
    (h) Mathematics, Statistics, Political Science

  5. All Degree Course students will have to take Environmental Studies in their Part-II Course
  6. B.A. (Hons.) Courses are offered in the following subjects
    English, Bengali, Sanskrit, Philosophy, History and Political Science

    Major Course in Communicative English

    A course in Communicative English (Major) was launched in the year 1998 with the support of the University Grants Commission, New Delhi. A language laboratory with required electronic equipments has been set up for this purpose in the first floor of the Bicentenary Block with a seminar library and other facilities.

  7. B.Sc. (Honours) Courses are offered in the following subjects
    Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Economics, Botany, Zoology and Physiology

N.B. : Each B.A./B.Sc (Hons.) student has to take two Elective subjects from among the subjects mentioned in 4 (ii) and 4(iv). Statistics is offered to limited number of students of Mathematics and Economics Honours Courses and then if seats are available, to others. Electronics is offered to limited number of students of Physics Honours only.

Finance & Accounting All subjects prescribed by the University.

Rules for admission to Hons. Courses will be notified in the College Notice Board during the time of admission.
