PROCEDURE AND PROGRAMME FOR NEW ADMISSION TO DEGREE COURSE, 2008 – 2009

A. GENERAL GUIDELINES

1. Admission will be ordinarily IN ORDER OF MERIT. But the College Faculty reserves the right to use discretion in cases involving the interest of the College.

2. Reservations for all Special Categories of Students will be as per Government Rules.

3. Number of Seats:
(a) In Honours Subjects:

4. (a) PROSPECTUS & APLLICATION FORMS will be available from the College Counter Nos.1 & 2. or may be downloaded from the College Website:

(b) A maximum of SIX application forms (each at Rs.40/-) will be issued to one person.

(c) One candidate can apply for at most FIVE HONOURS/ MAJOR subjects.

(d) SEPARATE APPLICATION FORMS must be submitted for:
(i) General Course - B. A. / B. Sc. / B. Sc. (Bio) / B. Com.
(ii) Honours Course - Separate application form for different HONOURS subjects.

(e) At the time of submission of downloaded application forms a fee of Rs.40/- for each application form will be levied.

5. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION TO HONOURS COURSE: See the printed sheet provided with the prospectus. Such criteria and the prospectus can be viewed in the College WEBSITE also.

6. No student from the VOCATIONAL & AGRICULTURAL Streams will be admitted to HONOURS COURSE.

7. RULES FOR STUDENTS COMING FROM OTHER UNIVERSITY / BOARD / COUNCIL will be as per CALCUTTA UNIVERSITY REGULATIONS.

8. The application from the candidates passing H. S. or equivalent Examination in 2007 & 2008 will only be entertained in general.

B. ADMISSION PROCEDURE
1.(a) ISSUE OF FORMS (General & Honours): Counter Nos. 1 & 2

(b) ACCEPTANCE OF FORMS (including forms downloaded from website)

DOCUMENTS TO BE ATTACHED WITH EACH APPLICATION FORM

1. Attested Xerox copies of Madhyamik or Equivalent and H. S. or Equivalent Mark Sheets and Admit Cards. Attestation is to be done by the Head of the Institution last attended.
2. SC/ ST candidates must submit attested Xerox copies of SC/ ST certificates from the appropriate authority with the application forms.
3. Physically Handicapped candidates must submit attested Xerox copies of the relevant certificate.
   
   N.B. : SC/ ST/ Physically Handicapped/ Christian/ Staff Ward/ Good Player Candidates will have to submit their application form accompanied by relevant certificate in a separate special counter.

2. PUBLICATION OF LIST OF SELECTED HONOURS CANDIDATES FOR COUNSELLING : 13.06.2008 (AFTERNOON)

3. DATE OF COUNSELLING FOR HONOURS CANDIDATES: (Venue & Time will be notified at the time of publication of list for counselling)

4. PUBLICATION OF LISTS OF SELECTED CANDIDATES:
(a) FOR HONOURS:

(b) FOR GENERAL COURSE (B. A. / B. Sc. (BIO) / B. Com.)

(c) DIRECT ADMISSION FOR B. Sc GENERAL COURSE (Pure Science):
23/06/2008 & 26/06/2008 - On First come First Serve Basis

5. DOCUMENTS TO BE PRODUCED AT THE TIME OF ADMISSION:

1. Original Mark Sheet and Admit Card of Madhyamik, H.S. or equivalent
   examinations.
2. For SC/ ST Candidates - Original Caste Certificate from appropriate authority.
3. For Physically Handicapped Candidates - Original Medical Certificate from appropriate authority.

6. DATES OF ADMISSION

7. RESTRICTIONS regarding selection of elective subjects (combination) in B. A. GENERAL Course:
(a) Students will be allowed to select ONE subject only and the other two subjects will be selected by the college during admission.
(b) Only those who have obtained 45% or more marks in (i) POLITICAL SCIENCE, (ii) PHILOSOPHY, (iii) HISTORY in H. S. or equivalent examination will be offered POLITICAL SCIENCE, PHILOSOPHY, HISTORY respectively in Degree Course subject to the availability of seats.

8. The above restrictions are not applicable to special cases as per Clause No. 1 of GENERAL GUIDELINES.

9. DATE OF RE-ADMISSION to B. A./ B. Sc./ B. Com. Ist year students
of SERAMPORE COLLEGE (detained in last session) : To be notified later on.

10. NO APPLICATION WILL BE RECEIVED BY THE COLLEGE IN ADVANCE OR AFTER THE LAST DATE & TIME MENTIONED IN THIS NOTICE.

11. ADMISSION WILL IN NO CASE BE GRANTED TO A CANDIDATE WHO FAILS TO TURN UP ON THE STIPULATED DATE & TIME.

12. DATE OF ASSEMBLY OF NEW STUDENTS - 11/07/2008

13. DATE OF COMMENCEMENT OF CLASSES - 14/07/2008

14. The College Authority reserves the right to change any of the above-mentioned dates and time.

15. The College Authority will take no responsibility for admission related information in any other print/ electronic media.
