Teaching Staff of the Theology Department: Brief Information

Rev. Dr. Lalchungnunga, B.A. (Hons), M.A., M. Phil., Ph. D., B.D.
Principal, Chairperson and professor of Political Science.

Rev. Dr. Lalchungnunga is an ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church of India. He teaches Political Science in the Honors Class of Arts-Science-Commerce, Social Analysis and History and Ethos of Serampore College in the Theology Department. Before joining Serampore, he served as the Vice-principal of Government College, Aizawl, and Development Secretary of the INTERSERVE (India), Delhi.

 

Rev. Dr. Pratap Chandra Gine MA, B.ED, M. Th., D.Theol.
Professor of New Testament & Vice-Principal (Theology)

With the passion and long experience of serving churches inter-denominationally and internationally, Prof. Gine taught at Serampore College, Eastern Theological College, Whitley College, and NIIPGTS. He has served for three years Senate of Serampore College as Deputy Registrar and acting Registrar. He was ordained in 1977 under the Bengal Baptist Union and since then served with different capacities. He was one of the members of the Pastoral Team of the Regent Baptist Church, Melbourne for four years. He has written several books and published articles in leading Journals. Before joining the Serampore College as Prof. of New Testament & Vice-Principal (Theology) in June 2008, Dr. Gine was serving as Principal of the College of Christian Theology Bangladesh.

 

Mrs. Amongla Jamir, B. Th., B. D., M. Th.
Assistant Professor of Old Testament

Mrs. Amongla Jamir comes from the Ao Baptist Church of Nagaland. She did her B. Th. in CTC, Aolijen, B. D. in Eastern Theological College, Jorhat, and M. Th. in Gurukul Lutheran Theological College and Research Institute, Chennai. She worked as a Child Director for a year in her Church and taught at the John Roberts Theological Seminary, Shillong, for 8 years. She joined the College as lecturer in 2007.

 

Rev. Dipankar Haldar, B. A. (Hons.), B. D., M. Th.
Assistant Professor of New Testament

Rev. Dipankar Haldar is an ordained minister of the Church of North India, Barrrackpore Diocese. He completed his B. D. in the Bishop's College and M. Th. under NIIPGITS. After the completion of his M. Th. he served as lecturer at Bishop's College for five years and Secretary of the Calcutta Auxiliary of the Bible Society from 1998-2004. He joined the college in 2004.

 

Rev. Pratap Digal, B. A. (Hons.), B. D., M. Th., M. A.
Assistant Professor of History of Christianity

Rev. Pratap Digal is an ordained minister of Orissa Peoples Church of Baptist Tradition. He has B. A. from Berhampur University and M. A. from the University of Madras. He did B. D. in Aizawl Theological College and M. Th., in History of Christianity, in Gurukul Lutheran Theological College and Research Institute, Chennai. He served as Cross-Cultural Missionary through Friends Missionary Prayer Band (FMPB) for about four years. Before he joined the College he taught in Utkal Theological College and Asia Theological School of Evangelism, Balasore, Orissa; Calcutta Bible Seminary, Dum Dum; and Hindustan Bible institute, Chennai. He joined Serampore College Faculty in 2002 as lecturer of History of Christianity.

 

Mr. Justin Moses, B. A., M. A., B. D., M. Th.
Assistant Professor of Religion and Society

Mr. Justin Moses belongs to Church of South India (CSI), Kanyakumari Diocese. He has B. A. in English Literature and M. A. in Sociology. He did B. D. (1998-2002) in the United Theological College, Bangalore, and M. Th. in Religions (2004-2006) under NIIPGTS, Serampore. He served as a Church worker in the Kanyakumari Diocese for three years, i.e. from 1997-98 & 2002-04. He joined the College as lecturer in 2006.

 

Rev. Vanlalmuanpuia, B. Th., B. A., B. D., M. Th.
Assistant Professor of Christian Education

Rev. Vanlalmuanpuia is an ordained minister of Mizo Synod of the Presbyterian Church of India, Mizoram. He was ordained in 1995. He completed B. Th. (1988) in Aizawl Theological College, Aizawl, B. D. (1992) in United Theological College, Bangalore, and M. Th. (2005) in Gurukul Lutheran Theological College and Research Institute, Chennai. He has rich experience of pastoral ministry of twelve years. He joined the College as lecturer of Christian Education in 2005.

 

Mr. Tongpangkokba, B. Th., B. D., M. Th.
Assistant Professor of New Testament

Mr. Tongpangkokba comes from Ao Baptist Church of Nagaland. He completed B. Th. in Clark Theological College, Aolijen, B. D. in the Gurukul Lutheran Theological College and Research Institute, Chennai, and M. Th. in UBS, Pune. Before joining the College he taught in a mission school and did pastoral ministry among the youth of his church for four years. He joined the College in 2007 as lecturer of New Testament.

 

Dr.Ms. Aswathy John, B.Sc., B.D., M.Th., MA, D.Th.
Assistant Professor of Theology & Ethics

Dr. Aswathy John is a member of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church and she comes from Kerela. She has B.Sc (Physics) from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerela and B.D from Mar Thoma Theological Seminary, Kottayam, Kerela. She did her M.Th in F.F.R.R.C. (Federated Faculty for the Research in Religion and Culture), Kottayam, Kerela. Also she has completed her M.A in Public Administration from Annamalai University, in Chennai. She has finished her Doctoral studies from the United Theological College, Bangalore. She served the Church as a students' Chaplain and taught in Southern Asia Christian College, Chennai, Gospel for Asia Biblical Seminary (Believer's Church Theological College), Thiruvalla, Kerela and Malankara Syrian Orthodox Theological Seminary, Malanthuruthy, Kerela. She joined the Serampore College in June 2008.

 

Mrs. Laila, L. , B.Com., B.D., M.Th
Assistant Professor of Old Testament

Mrs. Laila belongs to the Church of South India, South Kerela Diocese. She has B.Com Degree from Kerala University. She has completed her B.D. and M.Th from Gurukul Lutheran Theological College and Research Institute, Chennai. She registered for the Doctoral programme through FFRRC, Kottayam. She served as a Bible Woman (1999-2000) in the South Kerala Diocese Women's Fellowship, as a Lecturer (2002-2004) in Kerala United Theological Seminary and in Calcutta Bible Seminary (2007-2008). She joined the college as an assistant Professor in June 2008.

 

Rev. Malsawmzoliana, B.Th., B.D., M.Th.
Assistant Professor of Communication

He is an ordained Minister of the Mizo Synod of the Presbyterian Church of India, Mizoram. He did his B.Th from Aizawl Theological College, Aizawl; B.D. from Bishop's College, Kolkata and M.Th from Tamilnadu Theological Seminary, Madurai. Before he joined the College in June 2008, he served as a Pastor for eight years in Mizoram.

 

Rev. Dr. Somen Das, B. A. (Hons.), B. D., M. Th. (Princeton), Ph. D. (Boston)
Professor of Theology and Ethics

After his B. A. (Hons.) in English Literature and B. D. from Serampore College, Dr. Somen Das pursued his further theological education in USA for his M. Th. and Ph. D. in Christian Theology And Ethics in Princeton and Boston Universities in 1967 and 1978 respectively. He is an ordained minister of the Church of North India, and has been teaching Christian Theology and Ethics for last 34 years in various Theological Seminaries - Serampore College (1969-70), United Theological College, Bangalore (1970-88), Bishop's College (1989-99). He served as Acting Principal at UTC, Bangalore (1987-88), Principal of Bishop's College (1989-99), Visiting Professor at New College, Edinburgh, Scotland; Andover Newton, USA and Heidelberg University, Germany. He has written several books and published numerous articles in leading journals. He has joined in Serampore College Faculty in 2000.

 

Mrs. Dipti Rani Gine, B.A., B.ED., B.D., M.Th., CPE
Assistant Professor in Christian Ministry

With her BA (Utkal University) and B.Ed (St. Xavier's College, Calcutta University), she worked as high school teacher in SDA High School, Calcutta for four years, and Carmel School, Jorhat for seven years. She pursued her Theological Education (BD from Serampore College, M.Theol. [Pastoral Care & Counseling] from Melbourne College of Divinity, And Clinical Pastoral Education [CPE], Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute, Melbourne) and worked as Lecturer in Jensen Theological College and part-time Lecturer in Serampore College and worked there as a Counselor in the Counseling Centre. Besides serving as the Lady Evangelist of the Cuttack Baptist Church, she worked as a Duty Chaplain at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute for one year, and was involved in counseling for three years at the Regent Baptist Church, Melbourne. She was serving as the Expatriate Faculty at the College of Christian Theology Bangladesh before she joined Serampore College in June 2008 as Lecturer and Coordinator, CLRC.
