TEACHING STAFF

Teaching faculty consist of trained theological teachers from different disciplines of learning drawn from different parts of the country with rich variety of experiences and background. Following are the present teaching faculty of the Theology Department:

 

 

Prof. Dr. Laltluangliana Khiangte  M.A.,Ph.D.,D.Litt., D.D.

An Ordained Church Elder for life from the Presbyterian Church of India, Prof. Khiangte received Ph.D. in Literature from North Eastern Hill University in 1991, D. Litt (Folklore: 1999), Doctor of Divinity (Theology: 2012) & he was awarded viz. Rashtriya Lok Bhasha Samman (2003), Bharat Adivasi Samman (2005), Padma Shri in Literature & Education (2006) As a playwright, his famous play ‘Pasaltha Khuangchera’ (Unsung freedom fighter against British rule) was declared as the Best Book in Mizo Language in the year 2007. Awarded Fellow Membership (FUWAI) by the United Writers Association of India and the Indian National Sahitya Akademi included his bio-data in the End-century edition of Who’s Who of Indian Writers (1999). Prof. Khiangte is an Academician, Administrator, Scholar-Writer, Social Worker and a Tentmaker Missionary. Prior to his joining as Principal, Serampore College, he was the Dean of School of Education & Humanities and Member of the Executive Council which is the apex body of the Mizoram (Central) University. Presently, he is a Member of National Monitoring Committee for Education of SCs, STs & Person with Disabilities, MHRD, New Delhi & Vice-President of Three Literary Forums in India.

I. OLD TESTAMENT

Mr. Temjen comes from the Ao Baptist Chuch, Nagaland. He did his BD from Eastern Theological College, Jorhat, Assam and both M.Th and D.Th from FFRRC, Kottayam, Kerala. He joined Serampore College as a visiting lecturer in the year 1999 and as permanent lecturer from June 2000.

 2. Mrs. Amongla Jamir, B.Th, B.D, M.Th

Mrs. Amongla Jamir comes from the Ao Baptist Church of Nagaland. She did her B. Th. in CTC, Aolijen, B. D. in Eastern Theological College, Jorhat, and M. Th. in Gurukul Lutheran Theological College and Research Institute, Chennai. She worked as a Child Director for a year in her Church and taught at the John Roberts Theological Seminary, Shillong, for 8 years. She joined the College as lecturer in 2007.

 3. Dr. Laila L., B.Com, B.D, M.Th, D.Th

Mrs. Laila belongs to the Church of South India, South Kerala Diocese. She has B.Com Degree from Kerala University. She has completed her B.D. and M.Th from Gurukul Lutheran Theological College and Research Institute, Chennai. She registered for the Doctoral programme through FFRRC, Kottayam and received the degree in the year 2013. She served as a Bible Woman (1999-2000) in the South Kerala Diocese Women’s Fellowship, as a Lecturer (2002-2004) in Kerala United Theological Seminary and in Calcutta Bible Seminary (2007-2008). She joined the college as an Assistant Professor in June 2008.

II. NEW TESTAMENT

 1. Rev. Dr. Pratap Chandra Gine, M.A, B.Ed, M. Th., D.Theol. (Melbourne)

Professor of New Testament & Vice-Principal (Theology)

With the passion and long experience of serving churches inter-denominationally and internationally, Prof. Gine taught at Serampore College, Eastern Theological College, Whitley College, and NIIPGTS. He has served for three years Senate of Serampore College as Deputy Registrar and acting Registrar. He was ordained in 1977 under the Bengal Baptist Union and since then served with different capacities. He was one of the members of the Pastoral Team of the Regent Baptist Church, Melbourne for four years. He has written several books and published articles in leading Journals. Before joining the Serampore College as Prof. of New Testament & Vice-Principal (Theology) in June 2008, Dr. Gine was serving as Principal of the College of Christian Theology Bangladesh.

2. Rev. Dr. Dipankar Haldar, B.A (Hons), B.D, M.Th, D.Min, M.Phil.

Rev. Dr. Dipankar Haldar is an ordained minister of the Church of North India, Barrackpore Diocese. He completed his B. D. in the Bishop’s College and M. Th. under NIIPGITS. After the completion of his M. Th. he served as lecturer at Bishop’s College for five years and Secretary of the Calcutta Auxiliary of the Bible Society from 1998-2004. He joined the college in 2004.

3. Rev. Dr. Subhro Sekhar Sircar, B.D, M.Th, Ph.D (USA).

 Rev. Dr. Subhro Sekhar Sircar comes from the Baptist church and is a resident of West Bengal. He joined as a teaching faculty of Serampore College in the year 1998. He did his BD from Gurukul Lutheran Theological College and Research Institute, Chennai and M.Th from North India Institute of Post Graduate Theological Studies (NIIPGTS) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from USA.

4. Mr. Tongpangkokba, B. Th., B. D., M. Th. (Study leave)

Mr. Tongpangkokba comes from Ao Baptist Church of Nagaland. He completed B.Th in Clark Theological College, Aolijen, B.D in the Gurukul Lutheran Theological College and Research Institute, Chennai, and M. Th. in UBS, Pune. Before joining the College he taught in a mission school and did pastoral ministry among the youth of his church for four years. He joined the College in 2007 as lecturer of New Testament.

1. Dr. Aswathy John, B.Sc., B.D., M.Th., M.A, D.Th.

Dr. Aswathy John is a member of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church and she comes from the state of Kerala. She has B.Sc (Physics) from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala and B.D from Mar Thoma Theological Seminary, Kottayam, Kerala. She did her M.Th in F.F.R.R.C. (Federated Faculty for the Research in Religion and Culture), Kottayam, Kerela. Also she has completed her M.A in Public Administration from Annamalai University, in Chennai. She has finished her Doctoral studies from the United Theological College, Bangalore. She served the Church as a students’ Chaplain and taught in Southern Asia Christian College, Chennai, Gospel for Asia Biblical Seminary (Believer’s Church Theological College), Thiruvalla, Kerela and Malankara Syrian Orthodox Theological Seminary, Malanthuruthy, Kerela. She joined the Serampore College in June 2008.

 2. Rev. Dr. Somen Das, B.A (Hons.), B.D, M.Th (Princeton), Ph.D (Boston)

Professor of Theology and Ethics

After his B.A (Hons.) in English Literature and B.D from Serampore College, Dr. Somen Das pursued his further theological education in USA for his M.Th and PhD in Christian Theology and Ethics in Princeton and Boston Universities in 1967 and 1978 respectively. He is an ordained minister of the Church of North India, and has been teaching Christian Theology and Ethics for last 34 years in various Theological Seminaries – Serampore College (1969-70), United Theological College, Bangalore (1970-88), Bishop’s College (1989-99). He served as Acting Principal at UTC, Bangalore (1987-88), Principal of Bishop’s College (1989-99), Visiting Professor at New College, Edinburgh, Scotland; Andover Newton, USA and Heidelberg University, Germany. He has written several books and published numerous articles in leading journals. He joined Serampore College Faculty in 2000.

 3. Mr. Lalruatkima, B.A, M.Th

Mr. Lalruatkima commonly known as Maruata, a resident of Aizawl, Mizoram belongs to the Baptist Church of Mizoram. He did his BD from Serampore College and Master of Theology from North India Institute of Post Graduate Theological Studies (NIIPGTS), West Bengal. He joined the college as Promotional Secretary as well as the teaching faculty in the year 2012.

IV. RELIGION

 Rev. M. Justin Moses is an ordained Minister of the Church of South India, Diocese of Kanyakumari. He did his BD from United Theological College, Bangalore and both M.Th and D.Th in North India Institute of Post Graduate Theological Studies (NIIPGTS), West Bengal. He joined Serampore College as lecturer in the year 2006.

2. Dr. Giri K., B.A (Hons), MA, M.A, B.D, M.Th, D.Th

Dr. Giri K. hails from Kerala and belongs to the Assemblies of God Church. He joins in as Faculty after completing his residential requirement period of the Doctor of Theology in the branch of Religions from NIIPGTS under SATHRI of Senate of Serampore College. He holds BA (History), MA (Philosophy) and MA (Sociology) degrees from Kerala University and BD from UBS, Pune and M.Th (Religion) from NIIPGTS. He comes with a variety of ministerial experiences, such as an Associate Professor of the Assembly of God Church in Kerala for one year, as a student counselor with Inter Collegiate Prayer Fellowship (ICPF) in Ahmedabad, Gujarat for three years, and also at Gospel for Asia Biblical Seminary, Tiruvalla, Kerala for three years. Being a M.Th alumnus of Serampore College, he joins the Serampore family along with his wife, Elizabeth Giri (M.Th in Christian Theology) and a three year old son Amish.

  V. CHRISTIAN MINISTRY

 1. Rev. Dr. H. G. Mithra, B.Th, B.D, M.Th, D.Th.

Associate Professor of Christian Ministry

From Karnataka, Rev. Mithra pursued his Theological education with B.Th in South India Biblical Seminary, Bangarapet and BD in Leonard Theological College, Jabalpur, under Serampore College. Besides his general education in MA from Osmania University, he also obtained Maser of Theology in Missional Ethics from South Asia Institute of Advanced Christian Studies, Bangalore. He obtained M. Th in Christian Ministry (United Theological college, Bangalore) from Serampore University.Ordained in the Methodist Church, Rev. Mithra served as a Bi-Lingual Church Pastor in Bangalore 1990-’93, Chaplain and Pastor at Mount Hermon School, Darjeeling (1995) and a Pastor at Emmanuel Chapel, Kolkatta (1996-2000). He also worked as Registrar and Lecturer at AGST, Bangalore 1990-’93, and as Academic Dean and Dean of Men at Carey Centre, Kolkatta 1996-2000. He joined Serampore faculty in June 2000 and lectures on Christian Ministry subjects. He has just completed his D.Th programme in Christian Ministry. Married to Irene, they have three daughters, Divya (b. 1993), Deepa (b. 1995) and Disha (b. 1998).

2. Mrs. Dipti Rani Gine, B.A, B.Ed., B.D, M.Th., CPE

Assistant Professor in Christian Ministry

With her BA (Utkal University) and B.Ed (St. Xavier’s College, Calcutta University), she worked as high school teacher in SDA High School, Calcutta for four years, and Carmel School, Jorhat for seven years. She pursued her Theological Education (BD from Serampore College, M.Theol. [Pastoral Care & Counseling] from Melbourne College of Divinity, and Clinical Pastoral Education [CPE], Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute, Melbourne) and worked as Lecturer in Jensen Theological College and part-time Lecturer in Serampore College and worked there as a Counselor in the Counseling Centre. Besides serving as the Lady Evangelist of the Cuttack Baptist Church, she worked as a Duty Chaplain at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute for one year, and was involved in counseling for three years at the Regent Baptist Church, Melbourne. She was serving as the Expatriate Faculty at the College of Christian Theology Bangladesh before she joined Serampore College in June 2008 as Lecturer and Coordinator, CLRC.

VI. HISTORY OF CHRISTIANITY & MISSION

1. Rev. Dr. Pratap Digal, M.A, M.Th., Ph.D

Rev. Pratap Digal is an ordained minister of Orissa Peoples Church of Baptist Tradition. He has B. A. from Berhampur University and M. A. from the University of Madras. He did B. D. in Aizawl Theological College and M.Th in History of Christianity, in Gurukul Lutheran Theological College and Research Institute, Chennai. He served as Cross-Cultural Missionary through Friends Missionary Prayer Band (FMPB) for about four years. Before he joined the College he taught in Utkal Theological College and Asia Theological School of Evangelism, Balasore, Orissa; Calcutta Bible Seminary, Dum Dum; and Hindustan Bible institute, Chennai. He joined Serampore College Faculty in 2002 as lecturer of History of Christianity. He received the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from Visva Bharati (Central University) in the year 2013.

VII. COMMUNICATION

Rev. Lalzarliana is an ordained Minister of the Baptist church of Mizoram. He did his B.D from Eastern Theological College, Jorhat, Assam and Master of Theology in the branch of Communication from Tamil Nadu Theological Seminary, Madurai. Prior to joining Serampore College in June 2013, he served as a pastor for many years in Mizoram.
